WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today commended Jayda and Anaya Murray of Cordova for winning the Congressional App Competition for the 9th Congressional District of Tennessee with their Safety U app. The app presents a series of unsafe situations an entering freshman might encounter at college and offers a range of options for dealing with them.

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis will be receiving a Choice Neighborhoods Supplemental Grant of $4 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"I was proud to be a part of the dedication ceremonies at Foote Park in September and am pleased to announce this supplemental grant to expand on the major improvements to a historic Memphis neighborhood."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for one of two comprehensive spending measures funding federal government programs through the end of fiscal year in September 2020. Both measures passed the House, averting another government shutdown. The measure the Congressman supported provides a record high level of spending on the National Institutes of Health, Child Care and Community Development Block Grants, Head Start, Title 1 Education, and Food for Peace.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Center and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will each be receiving a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant to continue their critical research. St. Jude will receive $376,950 for its work on chromatin modifiers from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. UTHSC will receive $495,854 for its work on metabolism and diabetes from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee and the Chairman of its Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, voted in the committee this morning to move two articles of impeachment against President Trump to the House floor.
During a two-day markup Wednesday and Thursday, the committee considered a variety of amendments before sending articles charging the President with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress for the full House to take up next week.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for, and the House passed H.R. 3, the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act, a comprehensive bill that prevents Americans from having to pay more for their medicines than what Big Pharma charges for the same drugs in other countries.
The vote on passage was 230 to 192.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today questioned Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Stephen M. Dickson after evidence emerged that Boeing was aware of a safety design flaw regarding the angle of attack (AOA) disagree alerts in its 737 MAX aircraft but waited three years to address it.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Aviation Subcommittee of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today introduced the Safety is Not for Sale Act, legislation that would require air carriers to adopt additional safety features and ensure all non-required safety enhancing equipment is offered or provided to all carriers without an additional charge.
