[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Memphis has been awarded a $174,911.00 grant from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Division of Computing and Communications Foundations for research to verify theorems that describe the fundamental limits of computation under resource constraints.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today received a perfect 100% score by the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) for their 2016 National Environmental Scorecard. Congressman Cohen's score was the highest awarded to a member of Tennessee's Congressional Delegation. It far exceeds the 20.5% average score of the entire Tennessee delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives.

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Following yesterday's news conference in which President Trump accused the news media of being dishonest, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, today wrote to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) urging the committee to reconsider its vote earlier this week against including within the committee's oversight plan for the 115th Congress an examination of attempts by the Trump Administration to undermine the freedom of the press.

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, today discussed the rise of anti-Semitism in the United States since the start of the 2016 Presidential Election with Rabbi David Saperstein, the former United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, at a House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice Hearing entitled, "The State of Religious Liberty in America."

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted against H.J.Res 43, a resolution that would overturn a rule issued by the Department of Health and Human Services under the Obama Administration to ensure that patients can access Title X family planning and preventive health services through any Title X-qualified provider, including Planned Parenthood. Title X helps ensure that millions of women who have low incomes or are uninsured have access to birth control, cancer screenings, STI tests, and other basic care. H.J.Res 43 passed the House by a vote of 230-188.

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced the Tax Return Preparer Accountability Act to protect consumers from unscrupulous tax preparation businesses like Memphis-based Mo' Money Taxes. The legislation would give the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) explicit authority to ensure that paid tax preparers are adequately trained and maintain high standards of integrity. [WASHINGTON, D.C.]— Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN) and Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX), co-founder of the Congressional Victims' Rights Caucus, introduced H.R. 1035, Extending Justice for Sex Crime Victims Act of 2016. The bi-partisan bill harmonizes the statute of limitations for sex abuse victims and sex trafficking victim minors to 28, rather than the current age of 21.
