MEMPHIS, TN – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded Tennessee $3,722,177 in new federal funds to replace the Memphis Airways Bridge over Nonconnah Creek at the same location as a result of bridge scour and erosion.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has awarded a grant worth $766,747 to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) for cancer research. Specifically, the project will focus on the predictors of smokeless tobacco use in the United States military.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphian V. Lynn Evans, CPA, has been nominated to the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) by President Obama pending U.S. Senate approval. Congressman Cohen recommended Evans to the President for consideration. If confirmed by the Senate, Evans will fill the position on the TVA Board currently held by Bishop William Graves who has reached the end of his second term on the Board.

The funds will be distributed through the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS).

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has agreed to a change in Memphis’ recent Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) IV grant that will redirect approximately $5.6 million to improvements in downtown Memphis. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood agreed to this change yesterday while on a call with Congressman Cohen.
