It is important to provide all children and families access to a quality, affordable education and healthcare to help them secure a prosperous future. As a member of Congress, I have championed for legislation that makes it easier for Americans to balance work and family responsibilities, expands support for foster youth care, and serves the needs of children with special behavioral health needs and/or medical disabilities. I also firmly believe that assisting families in their pursuit of higher education is critical for our nation's growth and success.

Tennessee has been approved to distribute P-EBT benefits to qualifying families for the 2022-23 school year.
Eligibility for P-EBT
students attending traditional school;
virtual or home school students; and
some children under age 6 in childcare

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today reintroduced the Latonya Reeves Freedom Act, assuring that the Supreme Court’s Olmstead ruling, giving the disabled the qualified right to receive the services they need in a setting of their choice, is honored. The measure has 58 bipartisan House cosponsors.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive a $682,433 grant from the National Cancer Institute for a project titled “Sustainability determinants of an intervention to identify clinical deterioration and improve childhood cancer survival in low-resource hospitals.”

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Shelby County homelessness programs will receive $6,832,309 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care Competition Awards Program. The state of Tennessee will receive $27,094,890 under the program which is providing $2.8 billion nationwide, according to an announcement today by HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a $398,850 grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Mental Health Service Professionals Demonstration Program to recruit and retain a diverse cohort of future school counselors focused on “high need” students of the Memphis and Shelby County Schools.
