This week marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I announced funding to address and prevent youth violence in Memphis, I welcomed the Deputy Agriculture Secretary to our city, and I also announced more than $7 million for new job training programs that will help improve the Memphis economy. [MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced a total of $834,460 in federal funds to fight and prevent youth violence in the Ninth District. The funding, which comes just days after Congressman Cohen announced $850,000 to fight youth violence in schools, was awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) through two individual grants to the City of Memphis as well as to Shelby County.

Educators also have bought into that goal, putting initiatives in place to graduate either job-ready or college-ready students.
The U.S. Department of Labor will grant $3.27 million in job training funds to William R. Moore College of Technology and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology.
The Memphis schools will use the money to help develop a regional training program for the manufacturing, transportation and logistics industries. The programs are in partnership with Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis and Mid-South Community College in West Memphis.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Southwest Tennessee Community College has won $4,041,439 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to develop, expand, and enhance innovative career training programs in the healthcare, transportation, and logistics industries. Today’s funding comes through the DOL’s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) Grant Program, a 4-year, $2 billion initiative signed into law by President Barack Obama.
