WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today spoke at the third Republican-led hearing attacking the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and focused on the clearly false allegations that it is animated by antisemitism.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today introduced the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) Clarification in Sciences Act to provide an accurate and up-to-date scientific basis for the evaluation of substances reviewed for scheduling under the 1970 CSA statute.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, again today called for the impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts at a committee markup of a Constitutional Amendment on composition of the high court. Congressman Cohen introduced six Articles of Impeachment against Roberts on May 21.
In his remarks, Congressman Cohen said in part:
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today applauded the inclusion of his Horse Transportation Safety Act in the markup of the five-year surface transportation bill. The measure was included as an amendment and prohibits transport of equines in double-deck trailers. The same amendment also prohibits transportation of equines for slaughter and human consumption.
Congressman Cohen has long championed the humane treatment of horses and was named the Humane Society of the United States’ Humane Horseman of the Year in 2022.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced $2,543,243 in National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Both institutions received funding for research into hearing loss.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today led a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urging him to rescind any consideration of producing a gold coin with the likeness of President Donald J. Trump, noting that the plan “conflicts with federal law, congressional precedent, and well-established principles governing United States currency.” Current federal law stipulates: “Only the portrait of a deceased individual may appear on United States currency and securities.”
