MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the City of Memphis will receive a $1 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Environmental Justice Government-to-Government Program to develop a model program to address chronic dumping in distressed neighborhoods. The funding is intended to address dumping in the North Memphis neighborhoods of Klondike, Binghampton and Frayser and the South Memphis neighborhood of Whitehaven.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a grant of $615,455 to study eosinophils – a type of white blood cell – and antibacterial immunity in the lungs. The funding comes from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive U.S. Navy funding of $21,184,191 over 48 months to develop an Unmanned Systems Degraded Environment Facility for testing drones in complex and controllable airflow patterns. The funding was awarded based on competitive bids solicited in 2022 and will produce a facility for testing unmanned vehicles and Naval simulators under degraded visual conditions.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) noted the passing of television talk show host and civic activist Phil Donahue on Sunday at the age of 88, and made the following statement:
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis and Professor of Civil Engineering Dr. Sabya Mishra will receive a $75,000 grant to study the transportation challenges facing Ford’s future Blue Oval City employees from the National Science Foundation. The Civic Innovation Challenge (CIVIC) Stage One project will look at the need for efficient public transit systems, including fixed-line buses and on-demand micro-transit services, meeting strict arrival times.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today wrote to Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and Li Li Leung, President and CEO of USA Gymnastics, expressing his support and appreciation for their efforts to have Jordan Chiles’ Bronze Medal restored for her performance in the Women’s Floor Exercise.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will invest $13,526,378 in the de-icing facility at Memphis International Airport (MEM) completed in December of 2022 with a dedication ceremony attended by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that Shelby County will receive a $7,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for air quality sensors in low-income and disadvantaged communities. The funding for the grant came from the Inflation Reduction Act that Congressman Cohen voted for.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art will receive a $250,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to accommodate its move to a new facility on the Memphis riverfront. The grant is being matched with $429,469 from other supporters.
