WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today commended President Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and the whole National Security team for the successful negotiations that led to today’s hostage release and ceasefire agreement in the Israel-Hamas war.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, has written to Attorney General Merrick Garland urging him to drop the charges against the two remaining defendants in the Trump classified documents case pending in Florida. Charges against Trump were dropped by Justice Department policy after he was re-elected in November.
WASHINGTON -- Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-09), Bill Keating (MA-09), Joe Wilson (SC-02) and Maria Elvira Salazar (FL-27) today re-introduced the Combating Global Corruption Act, bipartisan legislation that would raise the profile of efforts to fight international corruption by evaluating and publicly naming countries where corruption is rampant. The legislation creates a ranking system for corruption similar to the successful Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, International Religious Freedom Report and the annual Trafficking in Persons Report.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today introduced the Train Furtherance of Outstanding Onboard Dining Act (Train FOOD Act) and the Train Establishment of Appetizing Table Service Act (Train EATS Act) to improve the dining experience on long-distance train routes across the country.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced two U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grants totaling $1,447,636. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive $606,034 for research on diseases of the retina from the National Eye Institute. Shelby County’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS program will receive $841,600 for its continuing efforts to end the HIV epidemic.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today condemned the unwarranted intervention of Judge Aileen M. Cannon, a Trump appointee who dismissed the classified documents case, by enjoining the imminent release of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s final report.
The action temporarily bars release of the findings to the public in the days leading up to Trump’s January 20 inauguration.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today wrote to Governor Bill Lee expressing concern that Tennessee missed a deadline to participate in the Electronic Benefits Transfer Program for Children and will forfeit $1.1 million for a program that fed 700,000 last year unless the decision in reversed. Congressman Cohen cited financial and ethical reasons for Lee to reconsider the decision.
The letter reads in part:
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a grant of $284,772 from the National Institute of Mental Health for a project titled “the neuroimmune mechanism of SARS-CoV-2 on synaptic transmission and plasticity” under the direction of Dr. Jianyang Du.
