How we treat animals is a direct reflection of our character — both as individuals and as a nation. Throughout his career, Congressman Cohen has worked to strengthen animal protection laws, promote the humane treatment of animals, and defend our nation’s wildlife.
As a proud member of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, Congressman Cohen has consistently received a 100% rating from the Humane Society of the United States and Defenders of Wildlife for his voting record in Congress.
Congressman Cohen has been a staunch supporter and advocate for protecting women’s rights, including reproductive freedom and pay equity. Having served as both Chairman and Ranking member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, Congressman Cohen has played a leading role for women’s rights.
Protecting Civil Rights and Voting Rights
Congressman Cohen is constantly pushing for the United States to live up to its highest ideals of equality, pluralism, and the rule of law. That is why he is a lead sponsor of the Do No Harm Act. This bill realigns civil rights law so that religion cannot be used to circumvent anti-discrimination law.
Congressman Cohen is dedicated to strengthening consumer protections, safeguarding personal data, and ensuring that credit scores are not used as a weapon in hiring decisions.
Fighting Crime and Seeking Justice
Policing
Hard-working Americans pay into Social Security and Medicare throughout most of their lives and make decisions based on the benefits they have been promised. Congressman Cohen believes that Congress has a duty to ensure their retirement security, which is why he has worked to strengthen Medicare and Social Security. He has consistently voted against measures that would be detrimental to the programs’ security and solvency.
Intelligence
In 2025, Congressman Cohen was appointed by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), which oversees the United States Intelligence Community, including 18 agencies and departments responsible for safeguarding our nation’s security. This appointment reflects both the trust of his colleagues and his long-standing commitment to protecting the American people through accountability, transparency, and sound intelligence policy.
