March 26, 2024

Follows January announcement regarding Covington’s middle school

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the Tipton County Board of Education will receive an additional $11,224,734 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for replacement of Crestview Elementary School in Covington destroyed in the storms and tornadoes of March of last year.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

“The storms that devastated Covington last Spring also destroyed the city’s Crestview Elementary School, a huge loss to the community, its children and their parents and teachers. I have urged cooperation between federal, state and local officials and worked to help ensure this funding could be received. Covington needs a new Crestview Elementary School, and this federal funding will soon make rebuilding it a reality.”

In January, Congressman Cohen announced $17.3 million in FEMA funding to rebuild Crestview Middle School.

The scope of work on the elementary school project includes demolition of an existing approximately 96,369 square feet of school facility; rebuilding a substructure foundation wall; and replacement of interior concrete blocks, doors, windows, ceilings, floors, the sprinkler system, heating and cooling, fixtures, communication, alarm systems, internet, generator sets and furnishings for the facility. In addition, there will be special construction of a safe room.
