WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) delivered brief remarks from the House floor this evening, urging everyone eligible for a coronavirus vaccination to get one. He noted that conservative radio talk show host Phil Valentine and Memphis football star Danton Barto, have passed in recent days, unvaccinated, but urging others to get the shots.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today presided at a virtual hearing on "Oversight of the Voting Rights Act: Potential Legislative Reforms." The hearing was the sixth on the subject of voting rights this year and comes a day before H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, is expected to be introduced in the House.

MEMPHIS – Representative Steve Cohen (TN-09), along with Representatives French Hill (AR-02), Terri Sewell (AL-07), and Mike Turner (OH-10), today introduced the Shift Back to Society Act. The bipartisan bill would establish a five-year grant pilot program for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to provide educational programming for formerly incarcerated people to expand their professional opportunities, reduce recidivism, and facilitate re-entry in communities.

MEMPHIS — Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) released a new study today showing the Child Tax Credit pumped $18.6 billion into local economies nationwide in July alone. In Tennessee, this tax cut for working families put a total of $401,989,000 into the local economy and $321,591,000 million directly into families' pockets benefiting 1,260,000 children in July. Based on the July payments, the new study from the Joint Economic Committee estimates the Child Tax Credit Monthly Payments will continue to pump $18.6 billion into local economies each month.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen, a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, secured the inclusion of several pieces of legislation in the bipartisan infrastructure framework, or the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, that passed today in the Senate. The bipartisan infrastructure bill includes the Multiple Substance Impaired Driving Prevention Act in its entirety, the Interstate Rail Compacts Advancement Act in its near entirety, and parts of the Stop Underrides Act and the Complete Streets Act.
