MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today reintroduced the Diversity Advancements in Accelerated Academic Programs Act, a measure authorizing the use of Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) funding to create equity offices in state departments of education or local education agencies that would develop programs to improve diversity in Advanced Placement (AP) and Gifted and Talented (GT) programs.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Cohen (TN-09) today announced that all of his highest priority spending requests were included by subcommittees of the House Appropriations Committee in their Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations bills. Among the approved requests is $3 million for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for improvements to Tom Lee Park along the Mississippi River waterfront, which is included in the Energy and Water appropriations bill.

Davis was among several municipal officials who met with Biden at the White House on Monday to discuss use of $350 million in American Rescue Plan funding dedicated to implementing proven violence-prevention policies.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $453,683 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for a unified high-performance web service for systems genetics and precision medicine.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Cohen applauded the Biden Administration for taking steps to protect consumers from airline fees. Today's executive order directs the Department of Transportation (DOT) to issue new rules demanding airlines to quickly refund fees if baggage is delayed or if other services, such as wireless internet or in-flight entertainment, do not operate properly.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $367,975 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for research into Human Serine Palmitoyltransferase Complexes.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $1,750,578 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for "Dissecting the role of NEU1-dependent de-sialylation in neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation."

"I am pleased that the National Institutes of Health are investing significant funding to better understand and treat neurological disorders. This funding will ultimately ease pain and lead to a better quality of life."
