WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Congressman Robert "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) today reintroduced the Tax Return Preparer Accountability Act to protect consumers from unscrupulous tax preparation businesses. The legislation would give the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) explicit authority to ensure that paid tax preparers are adequately trained and maintain high standards of integrity.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Cohen will host a "Complete Streets" roundtable discussion with critical stakeholders to address Memphis' unfortunate distinction as one of the most unsafe cities in the nation for pedestrians, bicyclists and public transit users. Congressman Cohen has introduced H.R. 3663, the Complete Streets Act, that would create a grant program to fund "Complete Streets" projects to make transit routes safer and more accessible.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today questioned witnesses at a House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Securing examining "Community Responses to Violence in Our Cities," noting that Memphis is affected by poverty and violent crime. Congressman Cohen also described his H.R. 3738, the Safer Streets Act, which would provide grants to communities with twice the national rate, or higher rates, of violent crime.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, questioned witnesses at a hearing today about the Trump Administration's oversight of the Trump Organization's lease of the Old Post Office. The Inspector General of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) admitted that the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution was not considered when the lease was evaluated following the election of Donald Trump.
