[MEMPHIS, TN] – As House Republican leaders rushed through a bill that cuts $40 billion from a critical part of our nation’s safety net, the SNAP food-stamp program, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) took to the floor of the House of Representatives and called on his colleagues to reject the draconian cuts and not push millions of Americans into hunger. [MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that Southwest Tennessee Community College was awarded a $2.66 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) for the development and expansion of innovative training programs. Southwest Tennessee Community College is also a member of two different multi-college partnerships that were additionally awarded just over $5.76 million in funding for training programs under today’s announcement.
[MEMPHIS, TN] – After a federal court permanently barred the owners and a former manager of Mo’ Money Taxes from preparing tax returns for others and owning or operating a tax return preparation business, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) issued the following statement:
[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that Shelby County has been awarded two grants totaling $997,334 for crime prevention and safety programs. This funding comes through the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).
“These funds will help ensure Shelby County law enforcement agencies have the resources they need to keep us safe and bring offenders to justice,” said Congressman Cohen.

“Evie Horton was a beautiful and thoughtful lady who exuded goodness and grace,” said Congressman Cohen. “She loved her husband deeply and, after 50 years of marriage, honored his memory each day following his passing in 2006. Memphis has truly lost one of its most beautiful citizens. Evie Horton will be sorely missed by all.”
[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis has been awarded a total of $1,535,129 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for four different projects.
“These funds will help continue the important work being done by the skilled researchers at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis,” said Congressman Cohen.
