This week, I have been in Russia on a Congressional Delegation trip with a number of my House colleagues. Our work has focuses on numerous issues, including human rights concerns, energy, Syria, and preventing terrorism, as well as working to resolve the disputes between Russian and the U.S. over international adoptions.

MEMPHIS, TN -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive over $430,000 in research grants from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and that the Memphis Housing Authority will receive $69,000 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive $437,500 to develop a greater understanding of cellular mechanisms of positive symptoms of schizophrenia. The grant is provided through NIMH’s Mental Health Research Grants program.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House of Representatives today approved an amendment authored by Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) on the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline. The amendment would require TransCanada – which would own and operate the pipeline – to submit its oil spill response plan and any updates to the plan to the Governors of each state in which the proposed pipeline operates.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representatives Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) and Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced legislation – H.R. 2066, the Pets on Trains Act of 2013 – which would require Amtrak to implement a pet policy to allow passengers to travel with domesticated cats and dogs on certain Amtrak trains.

And House Republicans voted for the 37th time to repeal the Affordable Care Act, legislation I was proud to support that is helping millions across our country.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Congressman Pete King (NY-02) have established the Congressional Caucus on Tourette Syndrome, a bipartisan panel that will help spread awareness about the neurological disorder and promote legislation to support people and families coping with Tourette Syndrome (TS). Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month begins today and ends on June 15.
This week I spoke on the House floor about the negative effects sequestration is having on Pre-K and Head Start programs in Memphis and across the country. I also spoke and voted against the GOP “Working Families Flexibility Act” – legislation that only offers greater flexibility to employers and lower wages to workers.
