[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the University of Memphis has been awarded an $83,289 research grant that will help students obtain real-world field and laboratory experience. The funding will be used by the University to conduct research necessary to create more realistic simulations of North American climate variability.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House of Representatives today approved an amendment authored by Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) on the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline. The amendment would require TransCanada – which would own and operate the pipeline – to submit its oil spill response plan and any updates to the plan to the Governors of each state in which the proposed pipeline operates.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN), Congressman Peter Welch (D-VT) and Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) were joined by 19 other members of Congress in formally requesting that the State Department conduct a new Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the revised proposal of the Keystone XL pipeline.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Buckman International – based in Memphis, TN – has been awarded a Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

“Buckman International has long been respected for its efforts to help protect our environment while also doing its best to create jobs in the Memphis region,” said Congressman Cohen. “The Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award is a prestigious recognition that should be a goal for all chemical companies.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) recently received a perfect score on the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund Conservation Report Card for the 1st Session of the 112th Congress. Congressman Cohen was the only member of the Tennessee Congressional delegation to receive a perfect score.

MEMPHIS, TN – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) recently received the 2012 Tribute of Hope Award from The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) for his “tireless commitment to asbestos education, advocacy, and support in honor” of his dear friend, Warren Zevon. Grammy award winning artist Warren Zevon was a victim of Mesothelioma.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today sent a letter to Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam outlining his concerns with the “check engine” light issue and asking the Governor to work with him to resolve this problem. The letter is a continuation of Congressman Cohen’s effort to resolve the ongoing problem where vehicles in Memphis fail their emissions test due to an illuminated “check engine” light.
