WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today expressed strong support for the Article of Impeachment that will go to a vote in the House on Wednesday, and made the following statement:

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today congratulated the Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center for being named one of 12 in the nation selected to establish a Fisher House so that families of Veterans can be close to their loved ones during hospitalization. Congressman Cohen wrote a letter strongly supporting the medical center's efforts during the evaluation process.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today introduced a joint resolution to amend the Constitution by abolishing the Electoral College. In the past 20 years, the archaic institution has twice awarded the presidency to a candidate who did not win the popular vote, defeating the will of the American people.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today extended his condolences to the friends, family and colleagues of veteran U.S. Capitol Police Officer Howard Liebengood, who defended the Capitol during Wednesday's insurrectionist attack and later died off-duty. This follows the Congressman's statement Friday expressing his appreciation for the service of Officer Brian Sicknick, who was killed in the line of duty during Wednesday's attack by Trump loyalists.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today wrote to leaders of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters in Washington to express his concern that the proposed Byhalia Connection pipeline project plan may be granted a nationwide permit without taking into consideration its proximity to the Davis Wellfield and the potential impact it could have on the environment and our city's precious drinking water.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today condemned the Trump Administration's decision to allow Tennessee to operate its Medicaid program through a block grant, jeopardizing health care coverage for residents covered by the state's version of Medicaid known as TennCare. Congressman Cohen has been a harsh critic of the state's plan to use a block grant to fund TennCare and has written both state and federal officials to voice his strong opposition to the proposal.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), who was in the House Gallery on Wednesday when the U.S. Capitol was overrun by insurrectionists, made the following statement on the death of veteran U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick:

"I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Sicknick, who died defending the U.S. Capitol complex and those of us who work there from mob violence. I strongly support Speaker Pelosi's decision to lower the flags at the Capitol to half-staff in his honor.
