[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced two bills aimed at boosting the development of “aerotropolis” transportation systems both in Memphis and across the country. An aerotropolis is a new method of urban development focused on promoting diverse development around an airport.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that Immuno Technologies, Inc., a medical research and development company headquartered in Memphis, has been awarded $1,000,000 in federal funding to further develop technology that can help doctors rapidly diagnose Lyme disease. This funding comes through the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant program.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Jim McDermott (WA-07) today introduced the Limiting Investor and Homeowner Loss in Foreclosure Act of 2014 to prevent foreclosures and help struggling families keep their homes. The newly-introduced legislation would encourage debtors and secured lenders to come together to discuss and secure mutually beneficial resolutions of their mortgage difficulties.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis has been awarded a total of $795,651 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for three projects.

“These funds will help continue the important work being done by the skilled researchers at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis,” said Congressman Cohen.

Lipman now becomes federal judge on the District Court for the Western District of Tennessee

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Sheryl Lipman, who Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) recommended to President Obama to fill a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee, was today confirmed by the United States Senate on an overwhelming vote of 95-0. Judge Lipman was recommended by the Congressman after he convened a diverse and bipartisan screening committee to conduct interviews of nine potential candidates for the position.
