[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in downtown Memphis was awarded $332,500 in federal funding for medical research. The funding comes through the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ (HHS) National Institute of General Medical Sciences. The purpose of this grant is to determine the efficacy of a novel compound, discovered at St. Jude, to reverse cancer drug resistance.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – With the support of Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Memphis-native Anthony “Amp” Elmore met this week with South African Ambassador to the United States Ebrahim Rasool to discuss Elmore’s proposal to foster a cultural and economic exchange between the African nation and the city of Memphis. The meeting took place at the South African Embassy in Washington, DC.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen today highlighted the induction of legendary Memphian Isaac Hayes’ Billboard chart-topping “Shaft” soundtrack into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry. A total of 25 recordings were inducted today into the registry, which preserves sound recordings as cultural, artistic and/or historical treasures, representing the richness and diversity of the American soundscape.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – With two weeks to go before the federal tax filing deadline on April 15th, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today urged Memphis taxpayers to ensure that they claim all credits and deductions—such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)—they are eligible for when filing their returns. The Congressman also reminded Memphians who may still be owed a refund on their 2010 federal taxes to file their returns before those refunds expire after this year’s filing deadline.
