WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today re-introduced the Safer Streets Act, which would create a new grant program to support local communities with high rates of violent crime, including the hiring of additional law enforcement officers and providing resources to community-based violence prevention programs.

Res. 3, a resolution condemning violence and property damage against pro-life organizations, then voted against the one-sided measure. The vote on passage was 222 to 209.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has awarded Regional One Medical Center funding for 2.33 new medical residency positions through the Department of Health and Human Services Direct Graduate Medical Education Program. The legislation would restore the treatment of private student debt to its pre-2005 status and make it dischargeable in bankruptcy.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, to today wrote Governor Bill Lee for a second time seeking emergency assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for damage done in Memphis and Shelby County by recent winter storms. Congressman Cohen noted that the dollar value of the damage now exceeds the minimum federal threshold.
