WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive $3,148,012 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reimburse expenses it incurred in ramping up to address the COVID-19 pandemic threat. The funding will pay for, among other things, the rental of tents used for testing at the center’s parking garages, protective clothing and equipment, additional oxygen supplies and freezers for storing vaccines.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced that the Memphis-based tri-state region will receive $14,744,843 in transit funding for Fiscal Year 2023 attributable to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) which he supported and became law in November 2021. This funding will be distributed to states and communities in the coming weeks, and additional amounts will be awarded on a competitive basis throughout the year.

WASHINGTON -- Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09), Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) and Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Massachusetts) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) today reintroduced the Forbidding Airlines from Imposing Ridiculous (FAIR) Fees Act. This bicameral legislation would prohibit airlines from charging fees – including bag, seating, cancellation, and change fees – that are not reasonable or proportional to the costs of the services actually provided.

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced a $512,103 grant to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) to study the role of sensory receptors in Angelman Syndrome, a rare neurological disease affecting balance, motor impairment and seizures. The grant is from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
