MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee and its Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security, on Tuesday questioned expert witnesses at a hearing on "Reimagining Public Safety in the COVID-19 Era."

Congressman Cohen asked Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner about his city's use of the $350 billion authorized for police funding in the American Rescue Plan, noting that no Republican members of Congress voted for the measure. Houston received $45 million of that funding to augment its efforts, Turner said.

Congressman Cohen acknowledged the likely impact on domestic fuel prices but said patriotic Americans will understand the need to show support for Ukraine and the rule of law. If banned, Congressman Cohen said, Americans filling their cars at the gas station can "Stick it to Putin at the Pump."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive two grants totaling $1,113,036 from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The first grant, for $628,113, is for a project entitled "Fetal cerebral arteries and prenatal alcohol exposure." The second, for $504,923, is for a project entitled "Defining the Role of Intestinal Calcium Channels in Alcoholic Liver Damage."
