WASHINGTON – U.S. Representatives Steve Cohen (D-TN-9), Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA-10), and Deborah Ross (D-NC-2) and U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) today introduced legislation to help prevent deadly truck underride crashes.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today testified before the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee about his priorities for Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District and for improvements to national safety programs he has long championed.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the University of Memphis will receive two grants totaling more than $3 million from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. One grant, for $2 million, will help bridge gaps in traditional commercial vehicle enforcement monitoring. The other, $1,232,003, will go toward testing passive radio frequency identification sensors to accurately read tire pressure and temperature on trucks.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Program has awarded two grants totaling $6,891,760 to the Memphis Fire Department and the MidSouth Development District.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today questioned expert witnesses on organized retail crime at a hearing in the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime.
In his opening statement, Congressman Cohen described the breadth of organized retail crime and its impact on Memphis, in particular, as a transportation and logistics hub. He also discussed the importance of a carefully calibrated federal policy that respects state and local public safety efforts.

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-9), the former Ranking Member of the Aviation Subcommittee, and Andre Carson (IN-7), a Member of the Aviation Subcommittee, today introduced the Aviation Funding Stability Act, a measure that would allow the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to keep all of its programs running and all of its employees working by drawing from its Airports and Airways Trust Fund during any lapse in typical government appropriations. The current temporary budget agreement ends September 30.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today wrote to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin seeking the reversal of a proposal to rescind the 2008 Endangerment Finding acknowledging climate change has an impact on human health and safety.
