WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure and Judiciary Committees, has reintroduced the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Second Screening Act. The bill would permit passengers being screened at TSA checkpoints to opt for a second electronic screening, rather than an automatic physical pat-down, when they believe they have produced a false positive result because of inadvertent movement or mistakenly having a foreign object in a pocket.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, welcomed Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg – "Secretary Pete" -- to his first committee hearing today and raised issues involving the Byhalia Connection Pipeline, the adequacy of Federal Aviation Administration passenger seat safety testing, Memphis' high pedestrian fatality rate and truck safety.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, applauds the Committee for passing his bill, H.R. 390, to redesignate the Federal Building located at 167 North Main Street in Memphis as the "Odell Horton Federal Building," . The bill was passed by a voice vote and is now eligible for consideration by the full House of Representatives.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Christ Community Health Services will receive a $6,176,771 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for its ongoing work meeting the needs of the medically underserved.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Aviation, today announced two significant grants totaling $14,880,645 to Memphis International Airport from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The funding comes from the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act of 2020 that Congressman Cohen supported and that became law in December.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today introduced FedEx Corporation CEO and Chairman Fred Smith, one of the witnesses at a hearing on "The Business Case for Climate Solutions." Congressman Cohen praised FedEx for its work in vaccine distribution and for its efforts to meet ambitious sustainability goals.

WASHINGTON – Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-09), Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Vern Buchanan (FL-16) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) today led a letter with more than 100 Members of Congress asking Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to publish a rule to prevent the intentional harming of horses known as "soring" that the Obama Administration was days from publishing in 2017 when Vilsack previously served as Secretary. The rule was withdrawn by the Trump Administration.
MEMPHIS – Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-09), Terri Sewell (AL-07), Robert Aderholt (AL-04) and Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC-At Large) today introduced the bipartisan John R. Lewis Voting Rights Highway Act, honoring their former colleague, the late Georgia Congressman John Lewis, who nearly lost his life at the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, on U.S. 80, on the historic "Bloody Sunday" voting rights march 56 years ago this week.
The bill would name the highway "The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Highway."

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) and Senators Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Marco Rubio of Florida today planned to reintroduce bipartisan legislation to strengthen safety measures to prevent deadly underride accidents involving tractor-trailers and straight trucks. The bipartisan Stop Underrides Act would require underride guards on the sides and front of all new trucks and update outdated standards for underride guards on the rear of trucks.
