Information regarding my stance on Transportation issues.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, early this morning voted to advance an ambitious, five-year surface transportation bill to the House floor. The measure, the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act, contains several of Congressman Cohen's legislative priorities including:
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, today spoke in favor of an ambitious, five-year surface transportation bill, H.R. 3684, the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act.
MEMPHIS – Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Kathleen Rice (NY-04) today introduced the Multiple Substance Impaired Driving Prevention Act to address an under-reported cause of many serious and fatal vehicle accidents. The measure would increase investment in technologies for detecting multiple-substance impairment and improve reporting on the phenomenon. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Republican of West Virginia, plans to introduce a companion measure in the Senate.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, today welcomed Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to Memphis for discussions on the economic impact of the closure of the Hernando DeSoto Bridge. Congressman Cohen participated in the Secretary's roundtable discussion with stakeholders in the freight-hauling business at FedEx, joined the Secretary on an inspection of the damaged bridge section, and then spoke at a press conference with the Secretary.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today welcomed a decision by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to come to Memphis on Thursday, June 3, to assess the disruption to traffic caused by the closure of the Hernando DeSoto-Interstate 40 bridge over the Mississippi River.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today commended the Biden Administration for its efforts to address the cracked span of the Hernando DeSoto Bridge and the resulting diversion of traffic to the Interstate 55 Tennessee-Arkansas Bridge in Memphis.
WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Albio Sires (NJ-08) today introduced the School Bus Safety Act, requiring school buses to be equipped with three-point seat belts, emergency braking system and other modern safety equipment. Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois plans to introduce companion legislation in the Senate in the weeks ahead. Congressman Cohen is a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
