Information regarding my stance on Transportation issues.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) tonight voted for the updated Heroes Act, which contains many of the provisions he has fought hard to have included in the measure addressing our ongoing health and economic catastrophe to protect lives, livelihoods and the life of our democracy. The $2.2 trillion measure is a scaled down version of the Heroes Act the House passed on May 15 but which the Senate has so far failed to consider.
Tonight's vote on passage was 214 to 207.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Aviation, today voted to advance the Aircraft Certification Reform and Accountability Act. The measure, informed by an 18-month committee investigation of the fatal crashes of two Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in 2018 and 2019 and the certification process by which the aircraft were authorized for flight by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), significantly improves aviation safety regulation and oversight.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN09), a senior member of the Aviation Subcommittee of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced two grants totaling $31,160,550 to Memphis International Airport from the Federal Aviation Administration for ongoing construction of de-icing pads and associated facilities.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced that Memphis International Airport will receive a $2,362,542 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for Phase 7 funding of a de-icing pad collection area. The grant includes $236,254 in Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding intended to help airports that have seen sharp declines in air travel during the pandemic avoid making the usual local funding match.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced $64.6 million in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants to Memphis International Airport. The funding is for Phase 2 construction of an ongoing de-icing project and for improvements to jet bridges over three years beginning October 1. More than $2.3 million of the de-icing funding comes from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act that became law in March.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the City of Memphis will receive a $38,011 Fire Prevention and Safety grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant is intended to reach high-risk groups and reduce injuries caused by fires.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced that Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) will receive a $483,000 Accelerating Innovative Mobility (AIM) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The grants are awarded to agencies promoting forward-thinking approaches to improve financing, system design and service.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, today was joined by Representatives Don Young (R-AK-At Large), Albio Sires (D-NJ-08), Hank Johnson (D-GA-04), and Adrian Smith (R-NE-03) in introducing the Airport Infrastructure Readiness (AIR) Act.
WASHINGTON – Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, and Terri Sewell (AL-07) today led a letter from the entire Alabama Congressional Delegation and Washington's Congressional delegate to Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, asking that U.S. Highway 80 be named the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Highway. Representatives Cohen and Sewell also introduced a bill Friday to name the highway "The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Highway."
