WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Memphis-area organizations will receive $1,738,964 in emergency preparedness funding from the Department of Homeland Security to protect its port and two Memphis Jewish institutions considered at risk of attack.
The grants announced today for the Port Security Grant Program include $1 million for the Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division; $37,500 for the Memphis Fire Department; $274,500 for the Memphis Police Department; and $227,464 for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today became a co-sponsor of H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act, House Democrats' newly unveiled bill to invest more than $1.5 trillion in modern, sustainable infrastructure while creating millions of good-paying jobs, combatting the climate crisis and addressing disparities in urban, suburban and rural communities across Tennessee, the Mid-South and throughout the country.

The bill incorporates several of Congressman Cohen's priorities including his bill, H.R. 1400, the Horse Transportation Safety Act, in its entirety. It also incorporates many elements of his other bills including H.R. 1511, the Stop Underrides Act, H.R. 3959, the School Bus Safety Act and H.R. 3663, the Complete Streets Act.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced that the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will receive an $11.2 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for a fiber optic intelligent transportation system (ITS) along the Interstate 40 corridor between Memphis and Nashville.

The bill would require major airlines and third-party ticket sellers to offer full cash refunds for all cancelled tickets during the coronavirus pandemic, regardless of whether the airline cancelled an entire flight or if the passenger cancelled his or her individual ticket.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure's Aviation Subcommittee, today commended Frontier Airlines for its decision to rescind its "More Room" social distance seat-pricing policy. In a letter to Congressmen Cohen and Jesus "Chuy" Garcia (IL-04) and Senator Edward Markey of Massachusetts late Wednesday, Frontier Airlines President and CEO Barry L. Biffle said the additional fee for passengers to avoid being seated next to a middle seat passenger has been abandoned.

Biffle, asking him to reconsider charging a fee to passengers seeking to comply with healthy social distancing practices on flights.
