MEMPHIS -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today recognized Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, as he prepared to return to Washington to vote on a fourth coronavirus response bill this week. The observance begins at sundown today. As a state senator, Cohen sponsored, and the Tennessee General Assembly passed, legislation to create the Tennessee Holocaust Commission. Cohen served as an ex-officio member of the commission during his tenure in the state senate.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) and Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced they would send a letter to House and Senate leaders next week calling for repeal of a $170 billion tax break in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) for hedge fund owners and real estate developers. While most Americans will get a one-time economic impact payment of $1,200, the individuals eligible for this tax break stand to gain an average tax break of $1.6 million.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) tonight wrote to House Democratic leaders asking them to reverse some provisions of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act relating to certain businesses' net operating losses and reversing restrictions imposed by the 2017 GOP tax bill that unfairly benefit high earners.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced $1,517,150 in U.S. Health and Human Services grants to support those affected by HIV and AIDS during the pandemic. The Tri-State Community Health Center will receive $916,275. Funding for Ryan White HIV Programs in response to the Covid-19 pandemic will also go to Shelby County ($430,956), Regional One Medical Center ($133,415) and Methodist LeBonheur Community Outreach ($36,504).

WASHINGTON -- Following President Trump's false assertion that he has "total" authority to "reopen the economy" and to order States to relax social distancing measures, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties Chairman Steve Cohen (D-TN) sent a letter to the Democratic Caucus outlining the president's actual legal and constitutional authority in this area.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $76,000 grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism to conduct alcohol research.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, today announced $24,894,552 in Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act grants to four Shelby County Airports. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will provide $24,687,552 to Memphis International Airport and grants of $69,000 each to General DeWitt Spain Airport in Memphis, the Charles W. Baker Airport south of Millington and the Millington-Memphis Airport in Millington.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $345,338 grant from the National Institute on Aging for research on data-driven identification of costly multi-morbidity groupings.

"I'm pleased that our medical school in Memphis can continue to conduct research on aging even as we endure this serious pandemic. This funding will keep scientists in their labs and will help find answers from an analysis of data."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Porter-Leath's Early Head Start programs will receive a grant of $1,185,657 from the Administration for Children and Families' Office of Head Start.
