Returns to Washington to Conduct Judiciary Committee Oversight
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, will return to Washington to participate in Wednesday's Judiciary oversight hearing on Policing Practices and Law Enforcement Accountability.

Congressman Cohen Announces Research Grant to UTHSC
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $677,071 grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases to study premature mortality in hemodialysis patients.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, applauded introduction of the Justice in Policing Act. The bill incorporates his National Statistics on Deadly Force Transparency Act (H.R. 119), the Police CAMERA Act (H.R. 120), and Police Training and Independent Review Act (H.R. 125). Congressman Cohen has championed these bills for several years.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a grant of $228,000 from the National Institute on Aging for research on amyloid precursor proteins.

"Research on the aging process is critical, especially as our country's elderly population grows. This grant will keep our medical school scientists in their labs making new discoveries to benefit us all."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Amiracle Sanaa Laney of Cordova, an 11th grader at the Tennessee Virtual School, has won the Congressional Art Competition for the 9th Congressional District. Her painting, "Beauty in the Middle of a Pandemic" will hang in the U.S. Capitol along with the winners from other congressional districts around the country.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Stax Museum of American Soul Music will be receiving a grant of $168,728 from the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences' African American History and Culture program. The grants are designed to build the capacity of African American museums and support the growth and development of museum professionals.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a grant of $3,686,681 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for research into SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus) transmission and immunity. The Congressman also announced the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $415,740 from the National Cancer Institute for cancer detection and diagnosis research.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $482,080 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture to study microplastics and their degradation and transport in agricultural soil and the interaction of hydrodynamics, chemistry and material sciences.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today applauded introduction of the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act.
Congressman Cohen noted that it incorporates several of his priorities including his bill, H.R. 1400, the Horse Transportation Safety Act. It also incorporates many elements of his other bills including H.R. 1511, the Stop Underrides Act, H.R. 3959, the School Bus Safety Act and H.R. 3663, the Complete Streets Act.
