MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today celebrated the life and legacy of the Reverend Joseph Lowery, a founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and longtime Civil Rights leader, who died Friday in Atlanta at the age of 98.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"I was fortunate to know Reverend Lowery through his frequent visits to Memphis for the 4th of April anniversaries of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. He was a great humanitarian, a gifted orator and truly a man of God."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) flew into Washington from Memphis this morning to cast a decisive, once-in-a-generation vote on a critical Coronavirus Response bill. The measure passed this afternoon and is expected to be swiftly signed into law.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update for Thursday, March 26

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Christ Community Health Services will receive a $138,489 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to support health centers in underserved areas during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that Christ Community Health Services Inc. will be receiving a grant of $4,442,578 from the Department of Health and Human Services for its ongoing work meeting the needs of the medically underserved.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"This significant grant will help Christ Community Health Services meet the medical care necessities of Memphians most in need. I am pleased to see this funding go to support the dedicated people looking out for the underserved."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $429,577 grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases for research into enterocolitis pathogenesis.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today led a letter to Vice President Mike Pence and the White House Coronavirus Task Force asking why the United States did not follow World Health Organization guidance, available since January 17, for manufacturing Covid-19 tests and instead relied on a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) test, which was found to be inoperable on March 1. Workable test kits were not available in all 50 states until March 9.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure's Aviation Subcommittee, today joined Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) and Congressman Jesus "Chuy" Garcia (IL-04) in writing to House and Senate leaders negotiating a possible airline bailout urging them to include consumer and other protections in any deal.
