Washington High School in Memphis, Tennessee. The Memphis high school was selected by the President as the winner of this year’s Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced that Booker T. Washington High School of Memphis, Tennessee is one of three schools that received the most online votes in this year’s Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge. From these remaining schools, President Obama will choose one as the winner later this week and will participate in their commencement ceremony this year.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded Memphis $4,232,594 for expenses related to disaster relief, long-term recovery, and infrastructure, housing and economic revitalization for the storm that took place in May 2010. Shelby County will receive $2,526,642.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded Memphis $5,195,847 under the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) to address the effects of abandoned and foreclosed housing.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Shelby County today received designation as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). This Federal designation will further the development of joint drug control efforts by federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement officers in the region and allow them to benefit from ongoing HIDTA initiatives. Congressman Steve Cohen issued a letter requesting the designation in April.
