WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today voted for and the House passed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, making lynching for the first time a federal crime. Emmett Till was a Chicago teenager lynched in Money, Mississippi, not far south of Memphis, in 1955.
The vote was 422 to 3.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced a bill to name the VA Medical Center in Memphis for Lt. Col. Luke J. Weathers Jr., a heroic fighter pilot and member of the Tuskegee Airmen.

The project is under the direction of Assistant Professor of Computer Science Weizi Li, Ph.D.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced the Keeping Evictions off Credit Reports Act. This bill would prevent evictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic from appearing on credit reports, which would negatively affect a person's future access to credit or housing.

WASHINGTON – Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44) today led a letter to the leaders of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment urging them to include various environmental justice provisions in the upcoming 2022 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA).
