WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) tonight voted to make Juneteenth – June 19 – a national holiday, recognizing the anniversary of that date in 1865 when enslaved residents of Texas learned of their emancipation at the end of the Civil War. The House vote was 415 to 14. After the Senate's passage of the resolution on Tuesday, the measure now moves to President Biden's desk to be signed into law.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the U.S. Treasury Department has awarded three Memphis-based community development financial institutions $2,838,265 to address economic challenges created by the coronavirus pandemic. The funding is part of the $1.25 billion going to 863 community development financial institutions announced Tuesday by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Sydney Charles, a 10th grader at East T-STEM Academy High School, has won this year's Congressional Art Competition in Tennessee's 9th Congressional District. Her "Ground Control to Major Tom" portrait of a boy in an astronaut suit, will hang in the U.S. Capitol for a year along with winners of the competition representing other congressional districts.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) applauded the Biden Administration's decision to send Second Gentleman of the United States Doug Emhoff (Vice President Kamala Harris' husband) to Memphis on Wednesday to draw attention to the need to get coronavirus vaccination rates increased. Emhoff most recently visited Memphis in early May to speak in support of the American Jobs Plan, an ambitious infrastructure measure.

MEMPHIS – Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a longtime member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the Helsinki Commission, commended Sweden and its Foreign Minister Ann Linde as they take the Chairpersonship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
