MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, today voted for and the House passed an ambitious, five-year surface transportation bill containing several of his legislative priorities.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today questioned expert witnesses at a full Committee hearing on "Secrecy Orders and Prosecuting Leaks: Potential Legislative Responses to Deter Prosecutorial Abuse of Power."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), who was in the House Chamber when violent insurrectionists assaulted the U.S. Capitol on January 6, today voted to create a Select Committee on the events of that day.
The vote on passage was 222 to 190.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $215,816 grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for work on training in the design and development of infectious disease therapeutics.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted to remove statues honoring former officials of the Confederate States of America who fought against the United States of America in the Civil War from the U.S. Capitol. Congressman Cohen has been a leader in the effort to remove the bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate general and founder of the Ku Klux Klan, from the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville.
The vote on passage was 285 to 120.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today presided at a hearing on "The Need to Enhance the Voting Rights Act: Preliminary Injunctions, Bail-in Coverage, Election Observers, and Notice."
In his opening statement, Congressman Cohen said in part:

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Methodist LeBonheur Community Outreach will receive a $441,625 grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for comprehensive, high-impact programs for community-based organizations.

"I am pleased to see the CDC investing in HIV prevention efforts in our community. This grant will provide the kind of outreach and intervention that will save lives."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive two grants totaling $1,473,078 from the National Cancer Institute. One grant, for $742,807 is for research on patient-generated health data to predict childhood cancer survivorship outcomes. The other, for $730,271, is for integrating systems immunology with immunometabolism and cancer immunity.

The case will be overseen by Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta and Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Kristen Clarke, two leading civil rights lawyers with extensive experience and expertise in protecting voting rights.
