MEMPHIS—Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center will receive a $380,000 grant from the National Eye Institute for retina research.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today sent a letter to coronavirus relief negotiators expressing his support for an extension of the December 30, 2020 spending deadline for financial assistance to states, tribes and local governments.

The letter reads in part:

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today wrote to House and Senate negotiators considering a possible coronavirus relief bill, urging them to include language that would keep President Trump's name from appearing on a second round of Economic Impact Payment (EIP) stimulus checks. A similar prohibition was included in the Heroes Act that passed in May.

The letter reads in part:

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced legislation and Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey introduced a companion bill in the Senate to address the epidemic of childhood obesity in America. The measure, the Reducing Obesity in Youth Act, has implications for the future health of these children and has a bearing on future national health care costs and national security.

Today, one in three American teens and children are overweight or obese, placing them at risk of a host of cardiovascular diseases, including heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will receive a $164,718 grant from the Department of Health and Human Service's graduate medical training program.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Underwriting graduate medical training supports our medical professionals and strengthens research capabilities at St. Jude. This grant will improve our medical infrastructure and support important jobs."

MEMPHIS -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today was pleased to see the Water Resources Development Act pass the House, a measure which includes his language transferring the operation and maintenance of the Memphis flood control system to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
