[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today sent a letter to Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam urging him to request assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the City of Memphis and Shelby County in response to the historic storm that hit the Mid-South region on Saturday night. The storm caused significant property damage to homes and businesses and left nearly 190,000 residents without power, including tens of thousands whose power has still not been restored.
[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced that the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority received a $22,500,000.00 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the construction of a 300,000 square yard deicing pad collection area at Memphis International Airport. This will be phase 1 of an estimated 5 phases of construction and includes the relocation of a road and construction of taxiway bridges.

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09), Danny Davis (IL-07) and Eric Swalwell (CA-15) today introduced the Private Student Loan Bankruptcy Fairness Act. This legislation would restore fairness in student lending by treating privately issued student loans the same as other types of private debt in bankruptcy. Until 2005, this type of student loan debt was dischargeable in bankruptcy, but a change to the bankruptcy code made that year removed this consumer protection.
