WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Air Force announced Memphis will not be the preferred base location for eight new C-17 aircraft:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded Memphis a Community Challenge Grant worth $1,260,905 for development of an Aerotropolis/Lamar Corridor Master Plan. HUD worked with the U.S. Department of Transportation in awarding these new federal funds, which will focus on spurring economic development, rehabilitating blighted and vacant properties, and improving transportation infrastructure.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Education has awarded $289,121 to a program at the University of Memphis that helps children with disabilities.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded Memphis $2,031,645 for expenses related to disaster relief, long-term recovery, and infrastructure, housing and economic revitalization for the storm that took place in May. Shelby County will receive $1,212,788.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) has awarded Tennessee $67.8 million to help low achieving schools improve. The funds were made available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), which the Congressman supported.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Shelby County today received designation as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). This Federal designation will further the development of joint drug control efforts by federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement officers in the region and allow them to benefit from ongoing HIDTA initiatives. Congressman Steve Cohen issued a letter requesting the designation in April.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center was awarded $224,484 in new federal funding by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) to support alcohol research programs.
