[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that he is accepting entries from Ninth District constituents into a lottery for tickets to watch His Holiness Pope Francis’ upcoming address to Congress—the first such address by a Pope in history—and have a chance to see the Pope in person when he is in Washington, D.C., on September 24. [MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the University of Tennessee Health Science Center three federal grants totaling $780,393 for a variety of programs and research projects.

“This significant federal investment will help the UT Health Science Center continue its pioneering research on the human brain,” said Congressman Cohen.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – After an investigation was released today finding evidence of Tennessee Walking Horse trainers using inhumane and illegal “soring” techniques to artificially exaggerate the gait of their horses, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) called on Congress to pass the bipartisan Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act, H.R. 3268, to end the tactics once and for all. [MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced $541,667 in federal funding to help the Memphis Health Center open a new access point in the Whitehaven community. The new access point will provide the same health care services that Shelby County citizens have come to expect of the Memphis Health Center’s other locations. This grant funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration.

The elimination of the Preschool Development Grant program, as proposed in the Republican education plan awaiting a vote in the House and Senate, could prevent nearly 7,500 low- and moderate-income Tennessee children from attending pre-school, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
