The National Center for Research Resources gave a new award in the amount of $457,024 to Dr. Charles R. Handorf, Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UT. This is a Biomedical Research Support Shared Instrumentation Grant that will be used to purchase a whole slide imaging system for the UT-HSC.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded a new grant in the amount of $330,309 to Dr. Anjaparavanda P. Naren, an Associate Professor in the UT Department of Physiology, for diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic research.

The National Eye Institute, a division of HHS, granted the new award to Dr. Mitchell A. Watsky, an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology at the UT-HSC College of Medicine. This grant will fund Dr. Watsky’s research into corneal disease.

“I am very pleased that HHS has awarded these monies to Dr. Watsky at the UT Health Science Center,” said Congressman Cohen. “There are more than four million cases of corneal disease reported every year, and I am thankful that HHS and the UT-HSC are devoting their time and resources toward eradicating this problem.”
