[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced the Putting Our Veterans Back to Work Act to help reduce veteran unemployment and train our nation's heroes for good-paying, high-demand jobs. Congressman Cohen's legislation would reauthorize the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP), which helps train unemployed veterans for careers in high-demand occupations, through 2021. VRAP expired in March 2014.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) questioned witnesses today at an Education and Labor Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Human Services hearing titled "Long Overdue: Exploring the Pregnant Workers' Fairness Act (H.R. 2694)." In his questioning, Congressman Cohen asked about accommodating pregnant women by employers offering them leave and also raised questions about the conditions for pregnant women at the XPO Logistics warehouse in Memphis.

WASHINGTON – Following this morning's storms, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) sought detailed information on damage and injuries from Shelby County emergency managers in advance of potentially seeking federal emergency disaster assistance. Reports indicate several areas of north and south Shelby County sustained structural damage while at least 26,000 homes were without electricity. The storm struck just after 6:30 a.m. local time.

The legislation would give the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) explicit authority to ensure that paid tax preparers are adequately trained and maintain high standards of integrity.
