[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) was joined by Acting Deputy Under Secretary for Health for Operations and Management Jan Murphy at a town hall with over 150 Mid-south veterans this morning to discuss ongoing concerns about scheduling and the quality of care at the Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). Following the town hall, Congressman Cohen and Under Secretary Murphy also toured Memphis VAMC.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today welcomed Southwind High School student Xavier Brito to his Capitol Hill office to congratulate the student on winning this year’s Congressional Art Competition. As the Ninth District’s winner, Mr. Brito’s piece, entitled “Remember the Dream,” will hang in public view on Capitol Hill for the next year. For two days, the main theme on Capitol Hill, at least for Democrats, has been voting rights.

Dozens gathered in the rotunda on Tuesday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King and commemorate the Civil Rights Act. The Senate held a detailed hearing Wednesday morning about a proposal to update the Voting Rights Act, and congressional Democrats took the stage on the Capitol lawn in the afternoon to demanding they be given a vote on the issue.
