As you likely know, much attention this week has been focused on the growing turmoil in Syria—and whether or not the United States should use its military power in an effort to lessen the Syrian regime’s ability to use chemical weapons against its own people. [MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that Memphis International Airport will receive $10 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for improvements. This funding will support the third phase of the Memphis airport’s passenger terminal apron reconstruction.
[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis has been awarded a total of $1,411,317 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for three different projects.
“These funds will help continue the important work being done by the skilled researchers at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis,” said Congressman Cohen.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – After Congressman Cohen urged Attorney General Holder to allow states to determine their own marijuana laws and to respect those determinations, the Department of Justice today announced new guidelines for federal prosecutors that—while not fully protecting businesses and individuals that comply with state and local laws—appear to reduce risk of federal prosecution for those individuals and businesses. [MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the University of Memphis and its faculty have been awarded a total of $895,398 in grant funding for three different projects. The funding announced today is from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
“This funding underscores the important role that University of Memphis scholars play in areas of national importance including science and education,” said Congressman Cohen.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the historic March on Washington which led to the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today called on President Obama to heed the “fierce urgency of now” and take immediate steps to reduce unfair racial disparities in our judicial system, cut prison overcrowding, reduce the deficit, and further the cause of justice.
[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region (PPGMR) was awarded $265,000 by the U.S. Department of Health and Services (HHS). This funding will help PPGMR expand and enhance its existing High Impact HIV Prevention program, as well as allow PPGMR to expand its outreach to the Spanish-speaking community.
