WASHINGTON –Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), the House Ranking Member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the Helsinki Commission, today questioned expert witnesses at a hearing entitled “Hamas’ Hostages, Putin’s Prisoners, and Freeing International Captives: Towards Stronger U.S. and Global Action for International Political Prisoner Day.”

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that Tennessee will be receiving $68,117,175 in Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding, supplemented by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) that he alone in the current Tennessee Congressional delegation supported.
The IIJA portion of the LIHEAP funding totals $1,701,882.

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) learned of the passing of longtime Memphis public servant Janet Hooks on Tuesday and made the following statement:
This week, the House voted to oust Kevin McCarthy from his post as Speaker. Last Saturday, I voted on a bipartisan compromise that kept the federal government operating past what had been a looming midnight shutdown. I also announced that Tennessee will be receiving more than $1.2 billion in federal highway spending, including $18 million for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen, whose first vote in Congress, in 2007, helped elect Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House of Representatives, today took a historic vote to remove Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House.
The vote to vacate the Speaker’s chair was 216 to 210.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the Memphis Children’s Health Law Directive, known as Memphis CHILD, will receive a grant of $187,307 to provide 50 families with expanded access to social workers, legal representation in navigating housing needs and home assessments from the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Community Services.
