The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services through their Navigator grant program.
Congressman Steve Cohen (D-District 9) of Memphis said Memphis will receive $148,885 in federal funding for violent gang and gun violence reduction efforts in Memphis.
This funding comes through the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which facilitates collaborative efforts between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and other community members to implement initiatives aimed at gang violence and gun crime reduction, prevention and intervention.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced 3 federal grants totaling $1,187,971 in funding for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This funding comes through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and will be used for a variety of programs and research projects.
“This funding will be used to continue important work at St. Jude, one of the world’s finest health care institutions,” said Congressman Cohen.

It's been a tough week for Ferguson, Mo. as people across the country watched events unfold.
"The response in Ferguson was really shocking. It looked more like something in Ukraine than the United States," Cohen said.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) was awarded with the National Association of Community Health Centers’ 2014 Distinguished Community Health Advocate award this morning. Congressman Cohen accepted the award during National Community Health Center Week at the Memphis Health Center, which is expanding thanks in part to $4.7 million in federal funds provided by President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.
