WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) condemned the disgraceful and embarrassing comments by President Trump after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying Trump's remarks accepting the Russian's denial of election meddling is an attack on American democracy.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN), a Member of the bicameral U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (known as The Helsinki Commission), was pleased that the House of Representatives today passed his bipartisan resolution expressing support for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) alliance and reaffirming the sovereignty of our partners in Central and Eastern Europe. WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, expressed frustration tonight that his effort to amend another spending bill with language prohibiting federal spending at businesses owned by President Trump, this time by Department of Defense programs, was prevented from consideration by the House Majority.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, today introduced amendments to the annual Department of Defense spending bill for Fiscal Year 2019 to prohibit the federal government from spending money at businesses owned by President Trump.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) has signed on to an effort to require the President to act on a law enacted last August to impose sanctions against high-level Russian officials for their roles in malicious cyber attacks on American democracy.
The Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act passed the House on a 419-3 vote and the Senate on a vote of 98-2 in July 2017 and became law on August 2, 2017. The law was intended to put pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and his inner circle as the United States prepares for midterm elections this year.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today co-sponsored the PARADE Act, whose acronym spells out "Prohibit Allocation of Resources for Absurd Defense Expenditures," an example of which would be President Trump's wasteful proposal to conduct a military parade, and made the following statement:
"America's greatness is not shown by displays of its military power; it's shown through respect for the rule of law, for scientific contributions benefiting all mankind, and in our heritage of welcoming ‘the teeming masses yearning to breathe free.'

WASHINGTON – Before leaving Washington for Memphis, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) reviewed the controversial Republican House Intelligence Committee memo ascribed to California Rep. Devin Nunes, as well as the Committee Democrats' response memo, and released the following statement:
"Because material in the Intelligence Committee memos remains classified, I can't say very much about them, but I can compare them in terms of persuasiveness, and by that measure, the Nunes memo is a dismal failure.

"Donald Trump should apologize to the countries he sullied with his disgraceful comments," said Congressman Cohen. "It is the President's job to act on behalf of our nation's best interests, and as President he must apologize.
