WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $499,998 for an International Grid Research and Advanced Training in Energy (InteGRATE) program from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The program, which will collaborate with the Technische Universitat Munchen in Germany, is under the direction of Dr. Alexander J. Headly, as assistant professor of mechanical engineering, Dr. Mohammadreza Davoodi, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, and Dr.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) has placed a poster depicting the “Gulf of Memphis” on an easel outside his Rayburn House Office Building door in Washington.

The action follows President Trump’s Executive Order 14172, signed on January 20, renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.”

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) will celebrate Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, as a federal holiday on Thursday, June 19. Juneteenth recognizes the anniversary of June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved Texans that “all slaves are free” and that the Civil War had ended. The emancipated residents of Galveston celebrated that day and, over the years, its popularity as a holiday spread across the country and became an annual tradition.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), the Ranking Member of the Aviation Subcommittee, today questioned expert witnesses at a hearing on the implementation of last year’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act.

In his opening statement, Congressman Cohen referred to the fatal crash over the Potomac River in January and a series of near misses as reminders of the need to modernize the aviation sector.

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-9) and Jim McGovern (MA-2) along with Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island today introduced a resolution condemning President Trump’s continual attacks on the free press. The resolution calls for the Executive Branch to respect the rights of journalists and allow them to perform their duties “without fear of retaliation.”  The United States must reaffirm its commitment to preserving and protecting freedom of the press as a cornerstone of democracy.
