MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted to remove statues honoring former officials of the Confederate States of America who fought against the United States of America in the Civil War from the U.S. Capitol. Congressman Cohen has been a leader in the effort to remove the bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate general and founder of the Ku Klux Klan, from the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville.
The vote on passage was 285 to 120.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a $1,271,532 grant from the National Science Foundation for a project entitled "Investigating chemosensory evolution in longhorned beetles using a comparative phylogenomic framework that integrates genomic, morphological, and biochemical data."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Sydney Charles, a 10th grader at East T-STEM Academy High School, has won this year's Congressional Art Competition in Tennessee's 9th Congressional District. Her "Ground Control to Major Tom" portrait of a boy in an astronaut suit, will hang in the U.S. Capitol for a year along with winners of the competition representing other congressional districts.

MEMPHIS – Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Kathleen Rice (NY-04) today introduced the Multiple Substance Impaired Driving Prevention Act to address an under-reported cause of many serious and fatal vehicle accidents. The measure would increase investment in technologies for detecting multiple-substance impairment and improve reporting on the phenomenon. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Republican of West Virginia, plans to introduce a companion measure in the Senate.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $623,558 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for leadership education in neurodevelopmental and related disorders training.
