Students at Oakhaven Middle School proved to be a receptive audience Monday morning as they got a visit from Congressman Steve Cohen (D-9th District) of Memphis, who attended an event in support of Constitution Week in America.

Hooks Job Corps Center, I announced more than $2 million in federal funds to help support research at the University of Memphis and St. Jude, and I continued my work to stop the excessive use of force by local police departments around the nation. [MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced 4 federal grants totaling $1,125,168 in funding for several projects at the University of Memphis. This funding comes through the National Science Foundation (NSF).

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced the Maximizing Opportunity and Retaining Experienced Teachers Act (MORE Teachers Act) to help address teacher shortages and retain qualified, experienced teachers.
[WASHINGTON, DC] – Earlier today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) joined U.S. Representatives Mark Takano (CA-41) and Susan Davis (CA-53) to announce the Protections and Regulations for Our Students Act (PRO Students Act). The PRO Students Act would provide a number of protections to students and taxpayers as well as ensure that for-profit institutions derive at least 15% of their revenue from non-federal student aid.
[WASHINGTON, DC] – The U.S. House of Representatives today approved Congressman Cohen’s amendment to H.R. 4984, the Empowering Students Through Enhanced Counseling Act, which would ensure that student loan borrowers are informed of and adequately understand the risks associated with their loans, including those issued by private lenders with excessively high interest rates and fees.
