MEMPHIS, TN - Lawmakers in Washington, D.C. are wrapping up their session this week.

It is considered by some to be the shortest legislative session in more than 50 years.

"We've got one more week in Congress and that's it," Tennessee Representative Steve Cohen said.

Cohen said he wants to see more done before congress adjourns on Friday.

"It's really unfortunate. We should be working on minimum wage. We should be working on unemployment compensation. We should be working on a jobs bill," Cohen said.

Students at Oakhaven Middle School proved to be a receptive audience Monday morning as they got a visit from Congressman Steve Cohen (D-9th District) of Memphis, who attended an event in support of Constitution Week in America.

But Congressman Cohen admits he'll have a tougher time when he returns to Congress in Washington, D.C., trying to get his colleagues to go along with the president's plan to fight ISIS.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) released the following statement upon learning of the video released by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claiming to show an execution of journalist Steven Sotloff:

“I was saddened to learn of the latest video purporting to show the execution by ISIS of journalist Steven Sotloff. If it proves true, the beheading of a second American journalist is further proof that ISIS, with a desire to create a caliphate, is a threat to America and to democracy everywhere.”

Memphis Rep. Steve Cohen has signed on to a letter issued Thursday demanding a hearing on the use of force by local law enforcement officials during the protests in Ferguson, Mo.

Cohen, and Reps. John Conyers and Robert Scott issued the letter to Rep. Bob Goodlatte, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, after Ferguson police broke up a protest Wednesday night with "brutal force: confronting demonstrators in riot gear and armored vehicles, arresting journalists, and firing tear gas and rubber bullets into the crowd."
