Congressman Cohen has the great honor of serving on the House Judiciary Committee. The Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over a wide range of issues, including crime, civil rights and civil liberties, immigration, bankruptcy, antitrust, intellectual property, and all constitutional amendments.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today voted for and the House passed S. 4160, the Supreme Court Police Parity Act. The measure authorizes the Supreme Court Police to protect the families of Supreme Court justices if there is a threat against them. The vote comes days after a 26-year-old California man armed with a gun and a knife was arrested on attempted murder charges after threatening to kill Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today spoke from the floor in support of and then voted for the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act. The measure establishes nationwide access to extreme risk protection orders through the federal courts to ensure that those who pose a threat to themselves or others do not have access to firearms.

The speech was in response to Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio and others in Wednesday's debate on the Protecting Our Kids Act which passed the House last night.
