WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Danny Davis (IL-07) today introduced the Julius Rosenwald and Rosenwald Schools Study Act. The measure would begin the process to establish a national historic park to honor the life and legacy of Julius Rosenwald, a successful entrepreneur and renowned philanthropist who made lasting contributions to the advancement of African American education during the twentieth century. Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois introduced the companion measure in the Senate.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) announced today that the National Science Foundation will be awarding Rhodes College $133,718 to study judicial decision making.

Congressman Cohen also announced that the National Cancer Institute will be making a grant of $165,300 to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center for cancer cause and prevention research. So far this year, the Memphis-based medical school has received $7,077,094 in federal grants.

WASHINGTON – At a hearing on "the State of Trucking in America" today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, heard witnesses endorse his Stop Underrides Act (H.R. 1511/S. 665). The bipartisan, bicameral bill would require the current federal standards for rear and underride guards to be upgraded to meet current industry standards as well as the installation of side and front guards to prevent cars from slipping under trucks in accidents.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, today voted to move a measure improving and extending the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund to the House floor.

On Tuesday, Congressman Cohen presided over a hearing on the compensation fund which examined the health consequences of the September 11, 2001, attack on first responders and people living and working near the targeted crash sites.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, today voted to move H.R. 35, the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, to the House floor. The measure, named for a 14-year-old Chicago youth named Emmett Till, who was lynched outside Money, Mississippi, in 1955, would make lynching a federal hate crime. WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, today voted for and the House passed a resolution authorizing lawsuits to compel Attorney General William Barr and former White House Counsel Don McGahn to comply with House Judiciary Committee subpoenas and provide requested documents and testimony. Among the documents requested of Barr is Special Counsel Robert Mueller's unredacted report on Russian interference in the 2016 election.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, today questioned former Nixon White House Counsel John Dean about former Trump White House Counsel Don McGahn's unwillingness to follow the President's order to have Special Counsel Robert Mueller fired, and sought to establish that McGahn's inaction and willingness to resign over the issue were appropriate.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced the Supermarket Tax Credit for Underserved Areas Act, a bill to provide tax incentives for the establishment of grocery stores in urban and rural areas that don't have convenient access to fresh food.
